Giant kokeshi "omoi shizukani" (think calmly) made by suigai sato born in okubo in 1920 he comes from a family that worked in silk, he began the art of kokeshi in 1948 and won numerous prizes including that of the Prime Minister in 1966. It is accompanied by its plaque as well as its original box. The creative kokeshi which mark a real stylistic break with the art of traditional kokeshi appear at the end of the First World War (donko kokeshi - omiyage kokeshi) which are brought back from travel or stay in onsen. Some artisans, often from classical training (traditional kokeshi), found their own creative kokeshi workshops, some of which are authentic works of art. These expressive, retro-style dolls are almost irresistible!
