Pair of Two-Arm Wall Sconces in Polychrome Carved Wood with Decoration
Each sconce is sculpted in the shape of a vertical arrow, with finely striated fletching deployed at the top and a tapered point at the bottom, made from polychrome wood in muted brown and red tones. A central gilded medallion, encircled by a twisted link, holds two light arms in a volute shape made of metal, ending in patinated wooden bobeches and faux candles. The motif of the quiver and arrow belongs to the neoclassical repertoire of the Louis XVI style, which Italian workshops at the turn of the century reinterpreted with their own decorative flair and polychromy. These sculpted wooden sconces illustrate a taste for graceful and light ornamentation. Condition report: Overall good condition. Original polychromy and gilding with a beautiful old patina, showing minor wear consistent with age. Electricity checked by an electrician. A charming pair, perfect on either side of a mirror or fireplace.
