The mrirt rug is a category of the beni ouarain rug and is therefore similar in its colors and patterns: a rather ecru background and geometric shapes in black or brown tones, when they are not plain. However, the wool used is of a higher quality and the weaving is denser. They are therefore particularly thick, silky and luminous. Just like the beni ouarain, the thickness of the wool can be explained since the tribes originate from the middle atlas. They are therefore subject to a harsh climate, and used carpets as mattresses and blankets to protect themselves from the cold. Due to their weaving technique, the wool work for mrirt rugs is even more rigorous/careful/meticulous and delicate, the wool threads are in fact knotted one after the other. The time to create a rug of this type is therefore very long and can take several days to several months depending on its size.
