Oil painting on canvas depicting ships in a storm and shipwrecked people. Flemish school, late 17th - early 18th century. This type of depiction was very common between the 17th and 19th centuries, especially in the Flemish region, but also in the rest of Europe. It is likely that the painting was created in Italy, given the typology of the houses in the background. Many Flemish painters stopped in Italy, influencing various Italian painters. On the back of the painting is inscribed Peter Muiler, known as Captain Storm, and the title of the work. The inscription is recent and done in marker. The work was purchased by the previous owner many years ago at an unspecified antiques auction. Regarding the inscription, it is likely that the author is not the one indicated, but that the style is that of the painter mentioned. As stated above, these were very popular depictions at the time, created by various painters. The painting has been cleaned and does not present any particular pictorial restorations, it has an old relining. Dimensions: 100 cm X 83 cm.
