Chinese apothecary cabinet

Furniture from the Shanxi province made between 1890 and 1919. Made of solid Elm and Oriental Pine for the drawer bottoms. Original lacquer and hand-painted calligraphy. Originally used by an apothecary to store various herbs, roots, and other remedies used in Chinese medicine. This piece consists of a niche and 28 drawers divided into two inside. Each drawer front is labelled with hand-painted calligraphy to indicate the contents of each section. Brass handles adorn each drawer. Despite some signs of age, its charm remains intact.
