Chair

Period: ca. Late 19th/early 20th century. This prayer god (prayer chair) features a padded armrest above the back, a book rest, a carved cross with gothic ornaments, and turned feet. It was painted turquoise blue and was lined with an art deco-inspired fabric with stylized peacock tail pattern. The edges were finished with a black stripe and silver-colored trim nails. The chair and probably of belgian or french origin. Status: used and adapted. The chair needed restoration. One of the arms of the cross was broken and this was repaired with a new support applied all over the back of the cross for lasting resistance. The book rest box was clearly broken at some point as visible on the inner joints (see photo). The seat has been restocked with new straps, foam seat and fabric. Dimensions: 94 cm total height, 36 cm seat height, 44 cm wide, 38 cm seat depth, 49 cm seat depth - book rest box, 7 kg.
