The daily mail was a british newspaper that published maps and information about the events of world war II. The newspaper published several maps during the war, including this one. This original vintage daily mail map from 1940 shows the maginot and siegfried lines, two major lines of fortifications between germany and france at the start of world war II. The maginot line stopped at sedan, the franco-belgian border, due to lack of funds and the belief that the forests of the ardennes would be an impassable barrier for an invading force. The siegfried line, built between 1938 and 1940, stretches 390 miles from cleves to weil am rhein, on the swiss border. Hitler viewed the siegfried line as a propaganda tool rather than a practical fortification. Dimension: 76*110 cm. Status: a. Date: 1940.
