MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPE, 19TH CENTURY PAINTING SIGNED BY PAUL DUPONT, SUPERB FRAMING. Mountain landscape, tree in a gorge. Large antique painting from the 19th century, signed by Paul DUPONT, landscape painter, French School, student of P. Delaroche, with a superb frame (106x85 cm), carefully restored in the 1990s, in very good condition. Description of the painting: It is a romantic mountain landscape, featuring a rocky gorge, trees, and a pronounced sense of depth. The composition is typical of a certain tradition of 19th-century French landscape painting: Very dark foreground; Tree acting as a repoussoir; Central opening towards the mountains; Large rocky masses; Light coming from the background; Relatively dark palette but with highlights; Pursuit of a theatrical and picturesque effect. The frame measuring 106 × 85 cm is particularly spectacular: carved and gilded wood, abundant decoration, multiple mouldings, inner and outer frieze. It gives the painting a much more luxurious presentation than that of many comparable works.
