A large unique vintage handmade wool rug from the 1960s in multicoloured geometrical patterns. I travel all over algeria to source unique rugs. This specific rug is from the rebellious kabylie mountains where locals still speak the berber amazigh language. This natural wool rug features stripes and geometrical patterns on a colourful palette, which becomes an instant eye-catcher and a must-have for every interior décor enthusiast. Either you combine it with neutral or colourful furniture and subtle accessories, this rug will blend in well with all kinds of surroundings and interior decor. The tradition is that all young girls should have a dowry for when it’s time to get married. As a result, they weave a significant amount of textiles with the help of their mothers and grandmothers to take them to their new houses as well as the older generation offer their own textiles to the newer generation. All the rugs I source come from a second, third or older generation. The wool yarns came from the ethically grown livestock of locals who dyed and treated with traditional organic methods hence the high finishing quality. All rugs should be washed in cold water and dry flat. You can view a selection of rugs in central london at the shop: Ground one six. 6 malden road. Belsize park. London, nw5 3hr. Place of origin: kabylie, algeria. Date of manufacture: 1960s. Materials & techniques: wool, cotton, handmade in a weaving loom. Condition: good. Lenght: 230 cm with tassels. Width: 216 cm.
