Antique Louis XVI slant desk with geometric marquetry – 18th - 19th century
Elegant antique slant-front desk in the Louis XVI style, probably dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. This secretary stands out for its remarkable geometric marquetry in trompe-l'œil, depicting a perspective design of cubes in an oval medallion, surrounded by fillets and contrasting wood veneers. Resting on four tapered legs, it presents a refined and balanced silhouette. The drop front reveals a writing space dressed in brown leather with a golden frieze decoration, as well as two small interior drawers, storage compartments, and a central space concealing a small lidded compartment. The front features three upper drawers and one large lower drawer. The piece retains a beautiful old patina, with signs of use, small marks, scratches, and old wood pitting visible in the photographs. The leather also shows characteristic wear from its age. A piece of furniture full of character, combining elegance, authenticity, and functionality, ideal for a classic or contemporary interior. Key for the desk is missing.
