Description
Nice presentation plate, terracotta underplate of m.a. Hadley pottery. It is an artisanal pottery from kentucky, which continues to produce tableware based on the naïve drawings of mary alice hadley. Thanks to the abundance of ancient clay deposits in the area, louisville has been a center of pottery making for generations. Building on this proud tradition, mary alice hadley has created one of louisville's most iconic and well-known potteries. In the late 1930s, mary alice hadley began to combine her artistic talent with her knowledge of clay products. In 1939, mrs. Hadley made dishes for her houseboat on the ohio river. The creative result was a custom tableware set that caused such a stir among his friends and acquaintances that the idea of a business was born. Responding to these early requests allowed a wide dissemination of his artisanal pottery and orders soon began to arrive from all over the country. With the help of her husband, george, the hadley pottery company was established in early 1940.
