Secretary Said Lady - Stamp: Romain Magniant - Period: 19th Century

Sumptuous secretary called “lady’s” in cedar burl and blackened pear wood. This magnificent piece is the work of a 19th century gilder cabinetmaker, mr. Romain magniant, the stamp is present on the flap, under the leather, the mark is made with a stencil “romain magniant doreur 91 r traversiere 9 b” (view the photo). Period: second half 19th century circa: 1870 - 1875 dimensions: total height with marble: 136.5cm X width: 65cm X depth: 34.7cm dimensions of the marble: length: 62.2cm X width: 33cm resting on four spinning top feet this very beautiful frame consists of a drawer in the upper part followed by a flap and four drawers in the lower part. The fronts of the drawers are all decorated with fine marquetry of foliage and flowers, the flap forming a writing desk, which amazes us with its finesse of execution and the richness of its marquetry. Opening the flap covered in black leather enhanced by a border with arabesque motifs, printed in gold leaf, reveals an interior wooden theater composed of two shelves and two drawers. Our secretary has rich ornamentation in chiseled and gilded bronze in the neo-pompeian style, particularly on the facade, moldings, falls and keyholes. An ingot mold highlights the base resting on four spinning top legs. Two other ingot molds carefully highlight the drawer in the upper part and highlight the italian carrara white marble slab placed on top. Usual restoration in our workshops. Buffer varnished finish.
