Iconic pair of "Alfa" chairs by Hannes Wettstein - Molteni&C

Magnificent and rare pair of chairs model "Alfa", an iconic creation by the famous Swiss designer Hannes Wettstein for the prestigious Italian publishing house Molteni & C. A true technical and aesthetic feat, the design of the Alfa chair is based on the minimalist assembly of just two pieces: the backrest that extends to form the rear legs, and the seat that extends into the front legs. They are entirely made of SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound), an innovative composite material of polyester resin reinforced with glass fibre (used notably in the automotive industry for its high resistance). Its grey lacquered finish gives them a metallic, minimalist, and decidedly postmodern appearance. This avant-garde creation was awarded the prestigious ICFF Editors Award in New York in 2001, attesting to its status as a landmark piece of design from the early 2000s. The authenticity marking of the publisher "Molteni & C" as well as the specification of the material "UP-GF30" (glass fibre composite) are embossed under the seat.
