A beautiful example of mid-century Danish studio ceramics — a Baca series vase designed by Nils Thorsson for Royal Copenhagen, dating to the 1960s. The square-section body is decorated on all four sides with Thorsson's signature incised abstract motifs — geometric grid panels filled with stylised symbols, birds, and organic forms, all deeply carved into the clay before glazing. The result is a rich, layered surface where deep cobalt blue and midnight black play against each other, the glaze pooling differently in each recessed line. The narrow cylindrical neck is finished in a slightly brighter blue, adding a subtle contrast that draws the eye upward. Nils Thorsson was one of Royal Copenhagen's most celebrated designers, working for the factory for over five decades. His Baca and Aluminia series became some of the most sought-after Danish ceramics of the post-war period, admired for the way they bridged folk art traditions with a thoroughly modern sensibility. Designer: Nils Thorsson. Manufacturer: Royal Copenhagen, Denmark. Series: Baca. Period: circa 1960s. Material: glazed stoneware / faience. Form: square-section body with cylindrical neck. A rare and highly collectible piece that would sit equally well in a curated Scandinavian interior or a dedicated ceramics collection.
