Babanki Elephant Mask

Babanki elephant mask (cameroon) made of wood. This mask is entirely representative of the animal it represents: the enormous satellite ears, the ovoid and scrutinizing eyes, the massive horns join the large cylindrical trunk in the middle. The elephant is the emblem of power in cameroon, more particularly of royal power. This type of sculpture is a lineage mask which takes part in commemorative festivals.
