Painting signed É. HIRTH (Édouard, 1885-1980) – Engraving – Saint-Guillaume Church in STRASBOURG. Édouard HIRTH was born in RICHWILLER in Alsace on September 14, 1885, and died in 1980. In 1901, at the age of 16, he enrolled at the School of Decorative Arts that the mayor of STRASBOURG, Otto BACK, had just created. His teachers, Georges DAUBNER, an open-air painter, Auguste CAMMISSAR and Carl JORDAN gave him a taste for landscapes and scenes of family life in SARREBOURG. His compositions, generally small formats, are executed in oil paint in bright and bold colors. The brushstrokes are thick and the material structured. He illustrated Tom SAWYER and Huckleberry FINN by Mark TWAIN. Net weight, in kg: 1.22. Dimensions in cm: Framed: height 52.8 and width 42.8. Engraving only: height 48.2 and width 30.7.
