Nest tables "Japan" — Cees Braakman for Pastoe, 1960s. Complete set of 3 nest tables — Dutch design. Rare set of three nest tables designed by Cees Braakman for Pastoe in the Netherlands during the 1960s. These tables belong to the renowned Japan series by Braakman, characterised by an extremely minimalist modernist aesthetic, geometric lines, and a very elegant dialogue between wood and metal. The design is particularly successful: the three tops appear to almost float above their metal structure, giving the whole a remarkable lightness despite the very graphic construction of the legs. Made of teak, they reflect Braakman's taste for warm woods combined with understated metal structures. The Japan series perfectly illustrates the meeting of Dutch modernism and the influence of Japanese design, with a constant pursuit of functionality and simplicity. What we love: the purity of the design, the contrast between teak and metal, and especially the possibility of using the three tables together or separately. A piece that is both decorative and extremely practical. A very beautiful Mid-Century Dutch set, particularly sought after today for its timeless elegance. Condition: very good vintage condition, with normal signs of use related to the age and history of the piece.
