A lovely butter dish in slightly pyrite-rich stoneware, with a beautiful glaze blending soft and comforting tones: beige, caramel, and chocolate—materials and colors typical of the 1970s. A fine example of handcrafted work in throwing and glazing by the potter Jean-Pierre Prud'homme. It is unsigned, but I can confidently recognize Jean-Pierre Prud'homme's glazing technique, and it is part of a very large Prud'homme service that I found at flea markets (some of which are already for sale here), several pieces of which are signed. Jean-Pierre Prud'homme did not sign every piece in a single service. In 1971, Jean-Pierre Prud'homme and his wife founded a pottery workshop in Monnaie, working with clay from the Nièvre region (Puisaye stoneware). This workshop still exists today (Atelier Au Grès du Vent), run by the owner's son Benoît, who took over in the 1990s and 2000s and also creates beautiful ceramics. This butter dish dates from the 1970s and is in perfect condition, with no cracks, chips, or even a single nick. It measures 18.5 cm in diameter for the base, 15 cm in diameter for the lid, and is approximately 11 cm tall.
