Military Campaign Kidney Desk Regency by Gillow's of Lancaster with Brass Gallery
We are delighted to offer for sale this exceptionally rare military campaign kidney desk by Gillow's of Lancaster, circa 1815, featuring a brass gallery and removable twisted legs. An outstanding example of a high Victorian library desk made by one of the finest English furniture makers, Gillows of Lancaster and London. The desk is made of Cuban mahogany, has a Regency brass gallery, and a green leather writing surface. The legs are twisted and removable in the famous style of military campaign furniture. The four external locks are all stamped J Bramah 124 Piccadilly, used exclusively by Gillows. The wood is stunning from every angle; the better the light source, the more it radiates. The leather top is the original Regency green leather with a stamped border, beautifully patinated with a good sheen. We have lightly cleaned, waxed, and polished the piece from top to bottom; the new owner can expect a piece in excellent condition, although it shows signs of wear consistent with its age. Dimensions: Height 70.5 cm, Width 112.5 cm, Depth 69 cm. Leg space: Height 57 cm, Width 45 cm. All measurements are taken at the widest points.
