Pierre d'avesn (pierre girre) (1901 - 1990) Vase poissons saint pierre, 1926 - 1931. Important spherical vase with flared neck in opaque emerald-colored glass adorned with a satin patina presenting an abundant relief decoration animated by a frieze of fish on a geometric pattern background. Signature p. D'avesn dimensions: 27.31 cm (10.75 inches) high24, 13 cm (9.5 inches) diameter. Historical reference of the model: catalog raisonné opalescence le verre moulé from 1920-30 written and edited by philippe decelle. Le verre art & design - xixth - xxith centuries by yves delaborde at the acr edition (art-creation-realization), volume 2 page 86. Signed d'avesn on the glass. Authenticity signature in book glasmarken lexicon carolus hartman. Pierre gire, alias pierre d'avesn, born in 1901 was a student of françois decorchement at the school of decorative arts. He was hired by lalique where he stayed 10 years. During this period, he designed the famous lalique "serpent" vase as well as the "tourbillons" vase, two of the most iconic pieces collected by "lalique". In 1926, he left rené lalique and created his own models. His pieces were produced by la cristallerie de saint-rémy. In 1930, daum freres asked him to take the artistic direction of his molded glass department in his croismare glassworks, which he did until the famous strikes of 1936. From 1940 he worked alone, his pieces were produced. By la cristallerie de choisy-le-roi (sèvres). Together with rené lalique and marius sabino considered as one of the most important french glassmakers for molded glass art pieces.
