Description
Charming set of three red chalk drawings from the mid-20th century. The first is a study of two women, the one on the left is 3/4 profile turned, sitting on a chair, wearing a long dress with a bun. The one on the right is also seated in profile turned slightly to the left, wearing a high headdress, a long loose dress and a belt at the waist. The second is entitled "study for an escape". It shows a man lying down, his arms swinging and his hair tied. The third shows an old peasant woman sitting on a stool by the fire (recognizable by the position of her arms and hands). Sanguine is part of the family of earth-red pigments that can be declined in orange, ochre and brown.
