This antique carafe is made of Baccarat crystal adorned with a guilloché frieze. It is a delicate bottle for water or orange blossom water. The pantograph engraving is elegant: a guilloché ornament composed of crosses and zigzags. The Baccarat factory used this type of decoration in the 1900s. This shape can be found in the Baccarat catalogue of 1907 with different guilloché engravings. The guilloché technique was widespread in the 19th century and very early 20th century: the crystal was coated with wax, and the decoration was drawn with a needle in pantograph engraving in the wax, then the object was dipped in an acid bath that attacked the exposed crystal. In good condition, it measures 21 cm in height. The stopper is not original - its number is different (44 / 23).
