Oil painting on canvas depicting ships in a storm and shipwrecked people - flemish school, late 17th - early 18th century - this type of representation was very widespread between the 17th and 19th centuries, especially in the flemish region, but also in the rest of europe. It is likely that the painting was made in italy, given the typology of the houses in the background. Many flemish painters stopped in italy, influencing various italian painters. On the back of the painting is written peter muiler called captain storm and the title of the work. The writing is recent and engraved with marker. The work was purchased from the previous owner many years ago at an unspecified antique auction. - as for the writing, I believe that the author is not the one reported in the writing but rather the style of the aforementioned painter. As mentioned above, these were very popular representations at the time, made by various painters. The painting has been cleaned and does not present any particular pictorial restorations, it has an old relining. Dimensions 100cm X 83cm.
