Bamboo Armchair Set in Turtle Shell Style. English Work.

Each armchair features a horseshoe-shaped backrest that wraps around, extended by the armrests, resting on a structure made of burnt bamboo with a tortoiseshell patina, in amber and brown hues. The backrest is adorned with openwork panels with cross patterns and geometric interlacing inspired by Chinese design, the belt echoes this openwork decor, and the slatted legs are joined by double stretchers. The seat is fitted with a comfortable cushion covered in light-patterned blue fabric. This model, known as "Brighton Pavilion, " reflects the chinoiserie taste of the famous royal pavilion in Brighton designed for George IV, where bamboo chairs in tortoiseshell style became a classic of Anglo-Saxon decor, revived by 20th-century decorators in the spirit of Chinese Chippendale. Condition report: Generally good condition. Homogeneous and shimmering tortoiseshell patina, sound structures, clean cushions that can be recovered. A decorative and comfortable set, suitable for a game table, in a veranda or a dining room with a chinoiserie spirit.
