Glimpse of lake como. D'abro pagratide aslan. (smirne 1848 - napoli 1928 ) Oil on panel. 21 X 32 cm. Armeno d'abro, born into nobility, began his artistic journey in london, receiving thorough training. He later moved to naples, drawing inspiration from his family villa in posillipo. Immersed in domenico morelli's atelier, he collaborated with fellow talents camillo miola, edoardo tofano, and paolo vetri. His art spanned landscapes, portraits, and historical scenes. In 1873, he debuted in exhibitions by 'salvator rosa, ' showcasing works like 'l'alba, ' 'all'apprestarsi dell'uragano, ' and 'la calma.' though critics initially overlooked them, his mastery in handling light variations in landscapes earned him respect from peers. A pivotal moment came in 1874 when his watercolour 'sun effect on a rock' was acquired by artist and lawyer achille carrillo. Esteemed french painter bonnat also praised his work, highlighting d'abro's global recognition. He exhibited successfully in various italian and foreign cities between 1873 and 1917. 'funus indictivum, ' a historical piece, was showcased at naples' esteemed national exhibition in 1877. Beyond painting, his generosity led to founding the 'regina margherita' kindergarten, funded by artwork sales. His contributions to art led to significant roles, like being vice-president of the 1900 paris international exhibition and honorary professor at naples' institute of fine arts. For 18 years, he guided the museo artistico industriale, boosting the city's cultural and artistic landscape. His ties with armenia, his homeland, stayed strong. D'abro symbolized the cultural bridge between italy and armenia. Naples granted him honorary citizenship in 1928, shortly before he passed away at 80 in 1929. Armeno d'abro was an extraordinary artist, transcending boundaries with talent and dedication. His legacy inspires new artists and celebrates the artistic union of italy and armenia.
