A tall, slender and beautifully composed brass candlestick in a style that sits confidently at the intersection of Art Deco and early Modernism. Acquired in Belgium, and likely of Belgian or French origin. The base is a low square pyramid in cast brass, its four faceted triangular faces meeting at a central ridge that rises to the point where the square-section stem begins. It is a form that is simultaneously ancient and thoroughly modern — the pyramid being one of the geometric absolutes that Art Deco designers returned to repeatedly as a symbol of permanence and clarity. From the base, a long, slender square-section stem rises with complete simplicity until it reaches the midpoint, where a cluster of three stacked spherical forms interrupts the vertical — a classical bobbin detail, here rendered with just enough restraint to feel contemporary rather than decorative. Above this, the stem continues upward to a wide, shallow conical drip cup, its inverted trumpet form echoing the geometry of the base in miniature.Unpolished, the brass has developed a warm, uneven patina over the decades — areas of deeper amber and olive tone sitting alongside brighter gold where the surface has seen more wear. The underside of the base shows the characteristic rough texture of cast brass, with traces of original solder at the stem joint. No maker’s mark has been identified. The overall effect is of something made with real intention — not a mass-produced object, but one where every proportion has been decided rather than inherited. At full height with a taper candle, it has genuine presence.Good vintage condition with honest patina throughout. Some minor surface wear and age-related discolouration consistent with the piece’s age. No repairs, cracks, or structural issues.
