Cork oak bark dish

Flat in cork oak bark, which can also be used as fruit baskets. Dating from the 60s, coming from the south east of the france (near cabasson), this very large, and beautiful object, is in great condition. Lovers of these trees (and this region) the cork produced directly by the tree is the "male cork", cracked and of lower quality. It must be removed, it is the operation of "unmasking" that is done as soon as the trunk reaches 70 cm in circumference. The new cork that is formed is the "female cork" that is raised every 9 to 15 years (depending on the region), when the desired thickness is reached, about 3 cm. The bark is removed the first time when the tree reaches the age of 25. The time to reconstitute a new cork base (every 9 to 10 years), and it is cut again, always in july and august, when the tree is in sap. Note a brown task (see photos).
