Archive furniture of the Northern Coalfields

An old archive cabinet from the Northern Coal Mines. Originally, this cabinet was used to classify and preserve archival documents. It is organized into a multitude of compartments that allowed for the methodical storage of files, cards, or documents of various formats, while keeping them easily accessible. It has retained its entire structure and numerous compartments, but the specially designed filing boxes that fit inside have disappeared. The shelves are now completely bare, leaving room for imagination to find it a new function. It accompanied me in my former shop in Pierrefonds, where it served as a display cabinet. I can easily envision it today as a china cabinet in a large kitchen or dining room, but also as a library or display piece for a collection of beautiful objects. It is an imposing piece, with a real presence that does not resemble furniture one encounters every day! Why did I choose it. For its history, of course, but also for its incredible potential. I love the idea that a piece of furniture designed for a very specific function can find a new place in a contemporary interior. Its numerous compartments allow for the display of dishes, books, collections, or beautiful vintage finds. And after having lived a first life in the archives and a second in my shop, it is ready to begin a third life in your home. The Little Technical Plus.
