Beautiful porcelain plate with imari decoration from the 19th century. On this plate, the background is white with floral and plant decorations in red and blue with some additions of green and gray. Imari porcelain is actually a japanese porcelain production site on the island of kyushu in hizen province. One of the different styles of imari porcelain found here is the kirande style, also known as "gilded brocade". It is recognized by the use of three specific colors (cobalt blue, saffron red and white) but also by a particular iconographic register (many floral motifs, animal elements and minerals). Japan having been a closed country for three centuries, between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, and its imari porcelain being very popular, china has taken over the imari motifs for european customers.
