I sell a pair of traditional baoulé chairs from Ivory Coast. Unique pieces, authentic and old, from the 20th century (+ or – 50 years) with patina of use that testify to their previous life. Characteristics. Material: solid exotic wood (natural blond patina for one; dark oak patina for the other) Dark chair - dimensions with backrest: h*58 X w*41 X d*29 cm approximately. Light chair - dimensions with backrest: h*57 X w*41 X d*28 cm approximately. Unit weight: 3.2 kg - total weight: 6.5 kg approximately. Pick-up at my home or shipment via cocolis at an additional cost. The chairs of the Baoulé people have a unique design, a low seat with an arched backrest. Made of solid wood (acacia?), they are composed of several pieces cut by hand. The Baoulé ethnic group is one of the largest in Côte d'Ivoire, living mainly from agriculture in the centre of the country, near the towns of Bouaké and Yamoussoukro. It is one of the few ethnic groups that masters the assembly of wood and manufactures assembled objects. This chair is above all a utilitarian object, it has no sacred character. In the villages, each guest goes to the meetings with his chair baoulé on his shoulder. The height of the backrest that allows it to be easily carried by passing arms in the backrest with the chair in the back. Moreover, the name of the owner is inscribed in the painting under some chairs. Some of these chairs sell for between 150 and 400 € unit price, or even more for the most ornate and oldest.
