Hammered metal vase

Art Deco, brutalist dinanderie vase from the workshops of Villedieu-les-Poêles: Dinanderie technique. Hand-hammered copper, not stamped. Base applied and brazed with visible cord: a process very characteristic of the workshops in Villedieu. The thickness of the metal is consistent but not industrially calibrated. Dark brown patina with black reflections, natural old oxidations. Absence of modern varnish or decorative patina. Aging consistent with Norman copper from the 1930s to 1950s. Formal sobriety: no decorative overload. Architectured, almost sculptural form; the majority of pieces from Villedieu are not signed.
