Old washing machine. Originating from agricultural machinery, the washing machine appeared at the end of the 17th century in England. The aim of this invention is to replace manual washing with mechanical washing. This wooden machine, the ancestor of our washing machines, has 4 legs, a tub made of wooden slats with a lid and a crank mechanism. It is one of the first machines whose shape is inspired by certain churns known to use mechanical force. It only arrived in France in 1904 and remained confidential until the Salon des Arts Ménagers of 1923. The method consisted of rotating the laundry in the tub filled with water, in order to loosen the dirt which was deposited in the bottom. Height 80 cm Diameter 65 cm Approximate weight 25kg Museum piece, collection, unusual object, garden decoration (flower pot), industrial decoration...
