Kaare Klint designer Safari armchair

"Safari" armchair designed in 1933 by Kaare Klint (1888-1954) 1950s edition by Rud Rasmussen in Denmark. Made from stained ash and leather, this armchair is self-assembled and can be assembled and disassembled without any tools. It's the first piece of furniture in the world to assemble yourself! It is inspired by the so-called "Roorkhee" chairs used by British army officers in India at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century as field furniture. These seats could be easily transported by the military when traveling with minimal bulk once disassembled. These are the leather straps located under the seat at the front and back, which hold the chair in place; once unstrapped, it can be quickly dismantled. Kaare Klint was an architect and designer, considered the father of modern Danish design. He will found a design school within the Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He will train and influence many great designers, such as Hans Wegner, Borge Mørgensen or Poul Kjærholm who will mark Scandinavian design over the years.
