We are delighted to offer for sale this superb Sheraton wardrobe handmade in England around 1800, featuring a series of drawers at the base. This piece is exquisite; look at the Sheraton inlays never seen before on this type of furniture, they are stunning. Governess wardrobes were used by staff and servants in their quarters to store linen, usually made of pine, this one is made of oak with beautiful inlays, making it unique. It was likely used in the main house and not hidden away, the owner wanting something truly special. The linen shelves were removed several years ago, and a rail was installed at the top to allow for hanging clothes. The top row of drawers is false and serves to increase the hanging height, while the three lower rows consist of deep drawers. We have thoroughly cleaned, hand-waxed, and polished it from top to bottom. There are a few small losses and a general patina present, as one would expect. Dimensions: height 212.5 cm, width 153.5 cm, depth 62.5 cm. All measurements are taken at the widest point. For any questions, please feel free to ask before bidding. The condition is good with wear consistent with age and use, and slight discolouration.
