This remarkable passata bowl comes from the Puglia region of southern Italy and dates back to the 19th century. Made of terracotta, it features a green interior glaze with a sponge effect over a buttery yellow slip, a technique typical of Italian potters of the time. The exterior, which has remained untreated, highlights the patina of time and the charm of authenticity. This type of container was used during the peak tomato season for the preparation of passata – a fresh tomato sauce in large quantities. Today, it constitutes a rare and unique decorative piece, perfect as a centerpiece, a pocket trinket, or for light everyday storage. The bowl has an old hole in the base (probably for drainage or fixation), now repaired. Please see the detailed photos to appreciate its patinated condition and signs of use, which guarantee its authenticity.
