An original art deco side cabinet/nightstand from the 1930s. This piece has a dignified design with stylish proportions and a dazzling burl wood pattern. The main part of the cabinet stands on two narrow legs with a subtle curved front side. The cabinet itself is divided in two main parts. Two smaller drawers in burl wood veneer at the bottom and an open storage space above. Overall the piece has a lovely balanced composition of all its parts. What is also unique about this cabinet is its smaller scale which makes this piece a great “small” but functional addition to any interior. This side cabinet was sourced in brno, czech republic. It is believed that this table was part of a bespoke project for a living room. In terms of the designer / producer of the cabinet, the quality of the materials and the perfect attention to detail indicates that it is likely to be a project of the local manufacturers and one of the leading furniture producers in europe at the time - up brno factory - where the iconic architects jan vanek and later jindrich halabala worked as designers and art directors. This piece is in great vintage condition with only minimal wear wear and tear. Recent restoration has fully revived the extremely rich colour of the entire piece, showing off the beautiful wooden patterns on all surfaces. This piece is truly marvellous example of the sophisticated design and high standards of furniture production in czechoslovakia of the early 20th century.
