Magazine rack featuring a beech frame with an ash-clad magazine compartment, distinguished by sculptural arched side supports, tapered legs and a pair of slender front rods designed to hold magazines and newspapers in place. The angled compartment allows easy access to its contents, while the open structure lightens the overall appearance and highlights the natural grain of the wood. In Italian cabinetmaking during the 1950s, beech was widely used for structural components thanks to its strength and excellent workability, while woods with more pronounced grain were often reserved for visible surfaces. The widespread use of walnut-toned stains also allowed different timbers to be visually unified, giving furniture the warm colour that has become one of the defining characteristics of many post-war Italian interiors. Through its construction and carefully balanced proportions, this magazine rack recalls the language of 1950s Italian design and, in particular, certain works by Ico Parisi, in which slender structural elements and organic forms create objects of remarkable visual lightness.
