Immerse yourself in the world of 1970s pop industrial design with this set of four iconic chairs boasting timeless charm. Designed to withstand heavy use, the chromed steel tube frames create an airy silhouette. The subtly curved rear supports extend the line of the backrest and give the seat a slightly cantilevered, graphic feel. Both the seat and backrest rest on plywood tops padded with high-density foam and then upholstered in mustard-colored leatherette—a vibrant shade that's a hallmark of space-age interiors. The formal vocabulary echoes the creations of Gastone Rinaldi or Cidue in Italy, while also highlighting French manufacturing: the circular stamp under each seat—a stylized “S” monogram—points to the Strafor workshops in Strasbourg, then major suppliers of metal furniture for government and educational institutions. Demand for 1970s chrome chairs is making a comeback, driven by the return of brutalist minimalism and 1970s color. Today, only a handful of identical stamped examples are found on the European market, most of them held in private or museum collections. This set is distinguished by its perfectly taut vinyl upholstery, free of cracks, while one chair has two superficial snags on the front – flaws that do not affect the comfort or the overall sturdiness. - Dimensions (cm): 76 (H) X 39 (W) X 48 (D) X 44.5 (seat H). Origin & Period: France/Italy, c. 1970. Good original condition: three chairs are in very good cosmetic condition, while the fourth shows two chips in the vinyl on the front right of the seat (last photo). The chrome is clean, with a few micro-pits acceptable for its age.
