Set of engravings by Jacques Callot "The Misery and Misfortunes of War", 17th century

" the misfortunes of war " is a major work by the seventeenth-century artist jacques callot. This set dating from 1633 is composed of 18 engravings on laid paper (90 X 190mm), mounted in a collection edited by israël henriet (170x260mm). In good condition, this collection is the third state of engraving (out of three). Engraving number 16 is in the second state. Under each engraving are six verses by the abbot of marolles. The paper is marked with watermark l.g, it massages. These various engravings express callot's critical view of the thirty years' war (1618-1648) and its ravages on his society and his soldiers.
