Magnificent antique confit pot (or grease pot) made of terracotta, dating from the late 19th century or early 20th century. This authentic piece of French folk art is appealing for its raw and timeless look, perfect for a chic country or bohemian style decor. The interior and the neck feature their original honey-yellow lead glaze, which was used to waterproof the container for preservation (fats, cured meats). The outer body is left in raw clay, revealing the natural shades of the earth and the superb traces of artisanal turning. Very beautiful period patina. The object is "in its juice, " reflecting its history and past utilitarian use. There are slight chips and glaze skips on the upper lip that enhance its charm and authenticity (see photos). No major cracks.
