Beautiful vintage ceramic plate from blois featuring a unique motif featuring a lizard with a crown in a majestic setting, accompanied by the inscription "nutrisco & extinguo", which means "i feed and I extinguish". This pseudo-latin motto was adopted by king francis i, in connection with the emblem of the salamander. It is stamped with "blois". The production of earthenware in blois dates back to the seventeenth century, when glazed ceramics began to develop in the region. The royal factory of blois, created in the eighteenth century, became famous for its elegant and decorative pieces. The colorful and nature-inspired motifs characterized the earthenware of blois. However, in the nineteenth century, increasing competition from the ceramic industry led to a decline in production. Today, the history of blois earthenware is preserved in museums and collections, testifying to its historical importance in the region. Whether to display it in a showcase or to use it during a meal, this collector's item will bring a touch of authenticity and fascination to your décor. A very nice gift for the tableware enthusiasts of yesteryear. D 23 cm.
