Charles hollis jones (born 1945) is an american artist and furniture designer. He is known for his use of acrylic and lucite. This is one of the special things that you rarely or never come across! The customer had it specially brought over from america for his new house that was built in 1970. He was born in bloomington, indiana (usa) in 1945. He moved to los angeles, california at the age of 16 and founded chj designs. At the time, acrylic and plastic were not commonly used as materials for luxury furniture and art, but jones began making pieces for showrooms, such as hudson-rissman. Charles hollis jones. His work was well received. Frank sinatra, lucille ball, and johnny carson were among the first to commission jones to design pieces for their home. An aging tennessee williams commissioned jones to design a writing chair: the result was the wisteria chair. In the 1970s, jones made his award-winning edison bulb. Using original thomas edison bulbs, jones created a lamp with steel and lucite to show the inner workings of edison's original technology. It earned him the california design 11 competition and special recognition from the german government. His work has been featured in a number of museums, including the norton simon museum in pasadena, california, and the los angeles times has referred to him as a "pioneer of acrylic design". Burbank in los angeles and continues to design furniture and accessories. He designs awards, including the sculpture for the 2008 golden heart award held at the beverly hills hotel in honor of clancy imislund for his contributions to the midnight mission.
