Sculpture / bas relief in patinated stucco - Jesus Prechant.

Exceptional medallion composition of characters listening to jesus preach, work of great finesse with silver gray patina. Made by the french sculptor and medalist louis octave joseph mattei at the end of the 19th century, sculpted in limestone, supported by stucco or plaster. This piece shines with its technical details. The foliage, drapery, hands and faces are very precise. But that's not all, the work of classical symbolism should be highlighted. In the background we find the light of the divine behind the clouds and in the foreground the preaching christ, who places himself as an intermediary between the earth/rational (the hand turned towards the ground) and the spiritual/divine (the finger pointed towards the sky). The people around him are also interesting. We find children, old people and women, all touched by his message, as if to establish the universality of his teachings.
