Gabriele mucchi fought as a partisan in the anti-fascist garibaldi brigade during world war II. After the war, he lived for many years in east berlin, where he worked as a professor at the academy of fine arts in berlin weißensee. The artist is considered one of the co-founders of "new realism" (nuovo realismo), whose works are exhibited in many renowned museums.
