Vintage brutalist stone mosaic coffee table – solid wood, 1970s

Striking vintage brutalist coffee table dating from the 1970s, combining a substantial solid wood frame with an unusual inset top composed of irregular natural stone pieces. The tabletop has a wonderful earthy mosaic of ochre, sand, brown and grey tones, set into a dark contrasting grout. The heavy wooden surround has softly rounded edges and a rich warm patina, while the architectural base with chunky square legs and cross stretchers gives the table a strong, sculptural presence. A characterful piece of 1970s European modernist / brutalist design, perfect for a wabi-sabi, organic modern, rustic modern or eclectic interior. Good vintage condition with age-related wear and patina consistent with its age and use. The natural variations and irregularities of the stone form part of the character of the piece.
