Period: ca. 1890-1910. A large cylindrical vase in cobalt blue glass with gold enamelled décor. Although this vase has a jugendstil look (german/austrian version of art nouveau), the gold motifs are neoclassical in inspiration and feature garlands of bay leaves. This neoclassical-inspired look is typical of the joseph riedel glassworks (7th generation in polaun-czech republic). The mark on the base has been erased and only a trace can be seen; I was therefore unable to attribute this vase with absolute certainty. However, since j. Riedel was one of the few to use neo-classical motifs, I presume it is one of his pieces. Josef riedel le jeune (1862-1924) was one of bohemia's most renowned glassmakers and came from a long line of glassmakers of which he was the 7th generation (in fact, after 11 generations, the company still exists). Status: very good. No damage. Sleep in good condition. Dimensions: see photo.
