For sale this set of 6 gautier delaye chairs, week end model (1956) good general condition with normal signs of wear. On some seats the straw is a little damaged but it is absolutely not visually disturbing or for comfort. Visible in paris 02, to be removed on site. Extract from a catalog notice: it was with the savoyard architect henry-jacques le même that pierre gautier-delaye discovered, according to his own words, "the possibility of making something "very modern" with very old materials". Hired by raymond loewy within the cei, he was responsible for managing interior architecture, a specialty that he would continue by fitting out more than seventy agencies for air france. In parallel with this activity, he established himself as a remarkable creator of mass-produced furniture. Among these achievements, one of the most noted would be the week-end furniture line; designed from 1956, it is exhibited at the "foyer d'aujourd'hui" as part of the salon des arts ménagers. This inexpensive set, made of landes pine, will be published by the cabinetmaker vergnères. Like charlotte perriand with the savoyard vernacular aesthetic, he will be able to take advantage of traditional regional know-how to produce furniture of popular expression, but deeply rooted in its time. Modern by its simple, refined design, and its respect for the truth of the material, the use of a common species, with a warm appearance, gives this set a reassuring aspect which explains its success with a modest clientele, that of the "large ensembles" characteristic of the reconstruction period.
