SPLIT BACKRESTS Photos describe the condition, more photos on request. Some scratch marks on the plexiglass and glue on the structure but no breakages. Collection from SIMONIS, Koekelberg. With the PLIA chair, designer Giancarlo Piretti revolutionized the concept of the folding chair and his study on the “three-disc pivot” is considered a stroke of genius. The combination of a steel and polypropylene structure paved the way for the PLIA chair, which has become a cult object… “The symbol of a new era focused on plastic” is how the 1967 Plia chair was received when it was released at the Milan Furniture Fair. At this fair, the presentation was such a public success that many visitors left the stand taking samples without even asking permission… following this unorthodox compliment, the chairs were tied down for safety with a chain.
