Description
Small wedding chest nineteenth with latch, polychrome wood and floral motifs. (padlock not available.) Traditionally made in normandy, known as "de rouen", between 1750 and 1890, and generously crafted with hand-painted flowers, these chests were intended to contain the small precious effects of the woman (headdresses, handkerchiefs, scarves, stockings, etc...) and were often a contribution of dowry of the girl to her new home. Usually finding the initials or the name of the bride, here these seem to have belonged to a certain loreleï. Height: 22cm. Width: 40cm. Depth: 25cm. Memory of another era, this object can present some tests of time.
