Magnificent bookcase signed René-Jean Caillette and published by Charron in the 1950s, an emblematic piece of French modernist design. This piece of furniture is divided into two separate modules, both fully removable, which facilitates transport and installation. The left module includes a display case in the upper part, a double cupboard with hinged doors and three large drawers in the lower part. The right module also has a display case in the upper part, a flap acting as a secretary with drawers inside and a cupboard with sliding doors at the bottom. The structure is in teak veneer and offers a beautiful grain typical of the sober elegance of post-war modernism. The three thin black metal legs are enhanced with brass tips, bringing a refined and graphic touch to the whole. The furniture is in good condition with some very slight marks of time, (a small scratch on a window) discreet witnesses of its authenticity. About René-Jean Caillette and Charron Editions: René-Jean Caillette (1919-2004) is one of the major figures of French design during the Trente Glorieuses (Glorious Thirty Years). Trained at the École Boulle, he distinguished himself with his rational, elegant, and accessible creations, with a constant focus on innovation in materials and forms. He collaborated with the biggest names in French furniture design, including Charron, Steiner, and Airborne. Charron Editions, less well-known to the general public but highly prized by collectors, helped to spread modern and functional design in France, by partnering with talented designers such as Caillette, Geneviève Dangles, and Alain Richard.
